Discernment: Recognizing God’s Voice Within

Overview

Many of us search for God in distant places without realizing that God’s presence is very close to us. When we learn the art of being still, being open and being available, we are better able to recognize God’s voice within.  Sr. Carol Marozzi, SSJ offers ways to discern God’s will in everyday life and strengthen our commitment to spiritual growth. Participants will learn how to experience prayer as a relationship and integrate discernment practices into daily ministry.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

1. Learn to distinguish between what is of God and what is not;
2. Discover ways to recognize God in the events of everyday life; and
3. Explore how to cultivate a discerning way of living.

Who Should Participate

Priests, deacons, men and women religious, lay ministers, and those involved in vocations, formation, or clergy and ministry personnel needs.

Questions for reflection and discussion prior to the learning session are provided below.

1. Do you believe that it is possible to be certain about God’s will?
2. Recall an incident in your life when it was difficult to know which path to take.  How did you come to your decision? Would you do that differently today?
3. What are the weakest aspects of your spiritual life? What is the predominant “stumbling block” in your relationship with God?
