While “Synodality” is an emerging theme in the Church, many are unclear about its vision. This seminar outlines the major spiritual themes emerging from the Synod on Synodality, providing discussion points for those participating in the Synod at the level of local parish communities, diocesan gatherings, and assemblies of consecrated religious. It is also a resource for those who continue local and regional efforts based on the synodal approach in the months and years to come, and for all who wish to make the synod’s themes part of their own lived spirituality.
Rev. David Songy, O.F.M. Cap., S.T.D., Psy.D., is a priest of the Capuchin Province of Mid-America, a clinical psychologist and author of Spiritual Direction for Priestly Celibacy. He is a past President of Saint Luke Institute and currently serves as a contract member of its clinical team. Previously, he worked as a professor and formator at several diocesan seminaries, including the Pontifical North American College in Rome and St. John Vianney Theological Seminary in Denver. Fr. Songy holds a doctorate in psychology from the University of Denver and a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Teresianum, the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality in Rome. He holds a Master’s Degree in pastoral counseling from Loyola College and theology degrees from Aquinas Institute. Fr. Songy speaks Italian, Spanish and Tok Pisin, the language of Papua New Guinea. He is an international speaker on topics such as priestly spirituality, initial and ongoing formation for ministry, living the virtue of chastity, and affective maturity.
