Sr. Jane Becker, OSB, Ph.D.

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Center

Sr. Jane Becker, OSB, is a licensed psychologist and a staff member of Saint Luke Center in Louisville, KY. She has presented workshops for priests and religious on transition, communication, forgiveness, and other topics in personal growth. Before coming to Saint Luke Institute she worked for many years in seminary formation at Saint Meinrad Seminary and the Pontifical North American College. She is the former subprioress of her Benedictine community in Ferdinand, Indiana, and is currently administrator for a Benedictine community in Crookston, Minnesota.

Christopher Block, Ph.D.

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Center

Christopher Block is a licensed psychologist on the clinical staff of Saint Luke Center, a ministry of Saint Luke Institute in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Block received his doctoral degree in counseling psychology from the University of Louisville and holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Spalding University. Prior to his work with Saint Luke Center, he worked as a psychologist for the Kentucky Department of Corrections in sex offender and substance abuse treatment as well as sex offender risk assessment.

Kathleen Hope Brown, D.Min.

Director of Spiritual Care Services – Saint Luke Institute

In addition to her spiritual care role at Saint Luke Institute, Dr. Brown is affiliate faculty at Virginia Theological Seminary, where she teaches spiritual direction and spirituality studies, and an adjunct faculty member at DeSales University. She is the co-founder and primary instructor of the Bon Secours Spiritual Direction Institute. Previously, she was dean of students and director of formation for ministry at the Washington Theological Union. She is a past president of the Association of Graduate Programs in Ministry. She received a doctor of ministry degree from Catholic University in 2001 and a master of pastoral studies degree from the Washington Theological Union in 1997. She is the author of Lay Leaders of Worship: A Practical and Spiritual Guide (Liturgical Press, 2004), co-author of Companions on the Journey: The Gift of Spiritual Friendship (DeSales Resource Center, 2006), and numerous articles on spirituality and spiritual formation.

Rev. Gerard Fieldhouse-Byrne, D.Min, MSW

Executive Director – St. Luke’s Centre

Fr. Gerard Fieldhouse-Byrne is a priest of Salford diocese in England and has been director of St. Luke’s Centre in Manchester since 2005. Fr. Byrne spent two years as a therapist and part of the clinical assessment team at the Saint Luke Institute in Maryland prior to his appointment as director of St. Luke’s Centre. Since 2010 he has also been the Human Development Coordinator at the Venerable English College, Rome and the Royal English College, Valladolid, Spain. He has a master’s degree in spirituality from the Angelicum University in Rome and a master’s in clinical social work and a doctorate in counseling from Boston University.

Stephen Carroll, Ph.D., LCPC

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Institute

Stephen Carroll, a licensed mental health counselor, has been a member of the clinical services department at Saint Luke Institute since 2012. Currently the director of aftercare services, Dr. Carroll received his doctoral degree in counseling from Loyola University Maryland and a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from Boston College. He served as a visiting professor at Loyola University in the school counseling department and conducted research for Georgetown University’s Woodstock Theological Center. His research on the impact of religion and spirituality on employment attitudes and behaviors has been published in the Journal of Mental Health, Religion, and Culture as well as in the American Psychological Association’s Handbook of the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality.

Emily R. Cash, Psy.D.

Director – Saint Luke Center

Emily Cash is a licensed psychologist and a member of the clinical services department at Saint Luke Institute since 2006. She received her graduate degree in clinical psychology from Spalding University in Kentucky and completed her doctoral training in a community mental health setting in New York City. Her clinical services include individual and group therapy, psychological evaluation and assessment, and facilitation of psycho-educational groups for mental health and well-being. Dr. Cash is the director of the candidate assessment program for Saint Luke Institute and the director of Saint Luke Center, a ministry of Saint Luke Institute in Louisville, Kentucky. She is a popular national speaker and facilitator for Catholic religious and clergy.


Joseph P. Collins, D.O.

Director of Medical Services – Saint Luke Institute

Joseph P. Collins, D.O., has been the director of medical services at Saint Luke Institute since 2004. He is a board-certified psychiatrist who received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed his psychiatry residency training at the Georgetown University Medical Center. He is currently an assistant clinical professor at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. His professional interests include depression, bipolar disorder and psychopharmacology.


Michael Day, Psy.D.

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Center

Michael Day received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Spalding University and an M.A. and M.T.S. from Saint Meinrad School of Theology. Dr. Day works on a consultation basis with Saint Luke Center and is the director of personal counseling and a member of the adjunct faculty at Indiana University Southeast. His experience includes work in higher education and children/family residential treatment. He is licensed in Kentucky and Indiana and his clinical interests include trauma informed care, developmental related issues, clinical supervision, and education.

Dana Dowd, PT, MS

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Institute

Dana Dowd is a licensed physical therapist and member of the clinical services department at Saint Luke Institute since 1999. Currently the coordinator for physical therapy and fitness for Saint Luke Institute, she received her physical therapy degree from Marymount University in Virginia. She is also a personal trainer and head women’s tennis coach for The Catholic University of America.


Br. John Mark Falkenhain, OSB, Ph.D.

Human Formation Fellow – Saint Luke Institute

Br. John Mark Falkenhain, OSB, Ph.D., of Saint Meinrad Archabbey, is a licensed psychologist and the author of How We Love: A Formation for the Celibate Life. He lectures internationally on issues related to celibacy formation, perseverance in religious life, and healthy psychosocial/psychosexual adjustment of clergy and religious. He is an adjunct professor of psychology at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology and a fellow in human formation for Saint Luke Institute.

Kathy Galleher, Ph.D.

KMG Consultation

Kathy Galleher, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and received her doctorate from Colorado State University in 1993. From 1998-2006 she was a staff psychologist at Saint Luke Institute. In 2006 she started KMG Consultation, which supports healthy ministry for men and women religious. Dr. Galleher works with a number of formation programs and is director of the Healthy Sexual Integration in Religious Life program in Washington, D.C., and Chicago. She presents on topics including sexual integration, self-care, conflict management, transitions and healthy boundaries and has worked with a number of national groups, including the Institute for Religious Formation, Religious Formation Conference, and the Leadership Conference of Women Religious.

Sr. Mary Pat Garvin, RSM, Ph.D.

Sr. Mary Pat Garvin, RSM, Ph.D., is a member of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. She holds a doctorate in psychology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where she was on the faculty from 1994-2001. Since 2001, she has taught psychology for Seton Hall University and worked with national and international conferences of religious, as well as religious congregations throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. From 2011-2017 she was a member of her congregation’s general leadership team, and she is the author of over 20 articles on topics pertaining to vocation discernment and the formative process.



A. Mechelle Haywood, Psy.D.

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Institute

A. Mechelle Haywood is a licensed psychologist and member of the clinical services department at Saint Luke Institute since 2017. She received her doctorate in psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Washington D.C., campus. Her clinical interests include preventative psychology, community wellness and youth emotional development.



Fran Johnson, MS, RDN, LD

Fran Johnson is a behavioral health nutritionist and has provided dietary counseling services in a range of medical and psychotherapy settings. She received her nutrition degrees from Virginia Tech, followed by work with inpatient clinical dietetics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and as senior nutritionist at the Weight Control Unit, Obesity Research Center of St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York.



Martha Keys-Barker, LCSW-C

Martha Keys Barker, LCSW-C, is a licensed clinical social worker and a retired member of the clinical staff of Saint Luke Institute. In her 16 years with SLI, she worked in outpatient therapy and in the women’s and the men’s residential programs. She received her master’s of social work degree at The Catholic University of America. She has additional training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a mindfulness-based therapeutic approach, and has facilitated DBT skills groups for many years. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).



Nancy A. Kluge, Ph.D., LCPC

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Institute

Nancy Kluge has been a mental health therapist on the clinical staff at Saint Luke Institute since 2008. She received her Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park and an M.S. in counseling psychology from Loyola University of Maryland. Prior to her work with Saint Luke Institute, she was an organizational behavior and training consultant in private industry and held a university faculty position. Her research and clinical interests include sexual disorders, addiction, resiliency, relapse prevention, and health of organizational systems.



Rev. Hugh Lagan, SMA, Psy.D.

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Institute

Rev. Hugh Lagan, SMA, Psy.D. is a priest with the Society of African Missions and a licensed clinical psychologist. His research and clinical work focuses on cultural dimensions in the mental health treatment of clergy and religious, as well as sex offender risk assessment. Fr. Lagan leads workshops and retreats internationally on psychological and spiritual well-being, mental health and resilience. Fr. Lagan completed his graduate studies in counseling and clinical psychology in Boston and completed a two-year post-doctoral internship at Saint Luke Institute.




Taryn Millar, Psy.D.

Dr. Millar is a licensed clinical psychologist and the former chief operating officer at Saint Luke Institute. She obtained her doctoral degree in clinical psychology from The George Washington University School of Professional Psychology. She has worked at the National Institutes of Health, University of Virginia Counseling and Psychological Services Department and in residential, outpatient and community mental health settings. Her clinical services include individual and group therapy and psychological evaluation.



Michael Pollard, LCSW

Michael Pollard is a licensed clinical social worker on the clinical staff of the former St. Luke Consultation Center (SLCC) in St. Louis, Missouri, where he worked from 1992-2021. Before joining the staff there he worked in a residential treatment facility for priests and religious in Sunset Hills, Missouri. He holds two master’s degrees from Washington University in education and social work. Mr. Pollard’s clinical work included group and individual therapy and psycho-assessment and weekly psycho-educational workshops.




Rev. Robert Ray, M.Div.

Spiritual Formation Staff – Saint Luke Center

Rev. Robert Ray completed his theological studies at St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, MD, prior to his ordination in 1969. He is a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville and has served in a variety of ministries, including parishes, retreat work with high school youth, college campus ministry, priest review and continuing education for clergy. He served on the staff at St. Meinrad School of Theology for ten years, and undertook spiritual direction training at the Institute for Spiritual Leadership in Chicago. Fr. Bob currently is a pastor; spiritual director with lay, religious and priests; and retreat leader with parish councils, parish staffs and men’s and women’s groups.



Rev. Msgr. Stephen J. Rossetti, D.Min., Ph.D.

President Emeritus – Saint Luke Institute

Msgr. Rossetti is a priest of the Diocese of Syracuse, a clinical psychologist, and a clinical associate professor at The Catholic University of America. Msgr. Rossetti holds a doctor of ministry degree from CUA and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Boston College. He served in two parishes immediately after ordination and is a 1973 graduate of the Air Force Academy. Msgr. Rossetti was president of Saint Luke Institute from 1996 to 2009 and served two stints as the Catholic chaplain to Antarctica and the South Pole. The author of numerous books and articles on priestly wellness and spirituality, Msgr. Rossetti is a much sought-after speaker in the United States and abroad.



Rev. Paul Scaglione, M.Div.

Spiritual Formation Staff – Saint Luke Center

Rev. Paul Scaglione is a priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville and completed his master of divinity degree at Saint Meinrad School of Theology prior to his ordination in 1973. He served as a spiritual director at St. Meinrad School of Theology for ten years and has held a variety of positions with the Archdiocese. Fr. Paul currently is active in pastoral care for the dying and also offers workshops on spirituality and pastoral care for victims of sexual abuse/violence.



Rev. Ken Schmidt, MA, LPC, NCC

Fr. Ken Schmidt, MA, LPC, NCC, is a licensed professional counselor and the Executive Director of Trauma Recovery Associates. He is the Advocate for Priestly Ministry and support as well as a judge and court expert for the tribunal of the Diocese of Kalamazoo, and he co-founded the Diocese’s Trauma Recovery Program in 2002. Fr. Schmidt is also the author of You Have Set us Free: Scriptural Reflections for Trauma Survivors, and Conscious Contact with God: The Psalms for Addiction and Recovery



Rev. David Songy, O.F.M. Cap., S.T.D., Psy.D.

President Emeritus – Saint Luke Institute

Rev. David Songy, O.F.M. Cap., S.T.D., Psy.D., is a priest of the Capuchin Province of Mid-America, a clinical psychologist and author of Spiritual Direction for Priestly Celibacy. Prior to coming to Saint Luke Institute, he was the spiritual director and prefect of studies at Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary in Denver, Colorado. He also was director of counseling services at the Pontifical North American College in Rome and held several positions at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary. Fr. Songy holds a doctorate in psychology from the University of Denver and a doctorate in sacred theology from the Teresianum, the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality in Rome. He holds a master’s degree in pastoral counseling from Loyola College and theology degrees from Aquinas Institute. Fr. Songy speaks Italian, Spanish and Tok Pisin, the language of Papua New Guinea. He is an international speaker on topics such as priestly spirituality, formation in priestly celibacy, and healthy sexual integration and affective maturity.




Sam Stodghill, Psy.D.

Clinical Staff – Saint Luke Center

Sam Stodghill is a licensed psychologist on the clinical staff of Saint Luke Center, a ministry of Saint Luke Institute in Louisville, Kentucky. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Spalding University in 2004. Before joining the staff at Saint Luke Institute, Dr. Stodghill was clinical coordinator for REACH, a community-based social service agency. His experience includes work in children/family residential treatment and foster care settings. His clinical interests include parent training, functional assessment and behavior support consultation, and program planning and evaluation.

Crystal Taylor-Dietz, Psy.D.

Crystal Taylor-Dietz, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist and the national director of behavioral health services for Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health. From 2015 to 2020 she worked with Catholic priests and religious in both an outpatient and residential treatment setting at Saint Luke Institute. She received a doctorate in clinical psychology from Chestnut Hill College and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology at Boston Medical Center, along with a post-doctoral fellowship at The George Washington University Professional Psychology Program. She is currently on the faculty at The George Washington University and the Washington School of Psychiatry. Her research and clinical interests include issues related to intercultural living, race/ethnicity, the intersection of spirituality and psychology and wellness promotion.

Gary Thompson, Ph.D.

Gary Thompson is a licensed psychologist and a now retired member of the clinical staff at Saint Luke Institute. He received his Ph.D. in physiological psychology and neurosciences from Howard University and completed two-year postdoctoral fellowships in experimental neuropsychology (Duke University Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development) and clinical neuropsychology (University of Minnesota Medical Center and Minneapolis Veterans Administration Medical Center). He served as an adjunct professor in the pastoral counseling department at Loyola University in Maryland for 10 years and has maintained a part-time private practice in clinical neuropsychology since 1985, serving as a consultant to numerous hospitals, mental health facilities, state agencies and the Central Intelligence Agency.

Maja K. Triantafilou, M.A., LCPC

Clinical Staff – Caritas Counseling Center

Maja K. Triantafilou, M.A., LCPC, is a licensed clinical professional counselor. She earned her master’s degree from Towson University and has extensive training in behavioral management, crisis intervention and psychotherapy. Ms. Triantafilou has worked with at-risk youth and adults in a community-based psychiatric school and correctional program. She currently provides outpatient counseling services to Caritas Counseling Center clients and is a member of the clinical team at Sheppard Pratt Psychiatric School in Towson, Maryland.
