Rev. David Songy, O.F.M.Cap., S.T.D., Psy.D., explores the ethics of evaluating and treating Catholic clients.
The American Psychological Association Ethics Code requires psychologists to consider both religion and culture, factors that are fundamental to the treatment of Roman Catholic priests, consecrated religious men and women, and laity. This presentation helps establish an anthropological framework for considering the religious values and cultural attributes of Catholic clients. The ethical application of the Guidelines for Providers of Psychological Services to Ethnic, Linguistic, and Culturally Diverse Populations in this context is also discussed.
Participants will:
Psychologists and other mental health professionals involved in psychological evaluation and/or treatment of Catholic clients, vocation and formation directors, and seminary personnel.
